There’re always issues about light control. How to achieve a beautiful soft light portrait with what you have? Can you imagine a high key by using JUST 1 LIGHT? This time you just need 1 Speedlight, and a Photograpy Umbrella!

Want to level up your portrait lighting RIGHT NOW? This video will give you the light set solutions you’ve been looking for! Follow the step-by-step guide, use umbrella and try this perticular setup, you will find how this can be so easy to achieve both Clean High Key Light & Beautiful Soft Light in just Seconds, with such a simple setup!

Jiggie Alejandrino, the portrait & wedding photographer I introduced in the previous blogs, has brings about the new lighting tutorial this week. He’s the Sony Ph Brand Ambassador, the Zeiss Camera Lens Ambassador, and regarded as one of the most reputable lighting specialists.

Regarding the lightings for photo, today Jiggie’s going to talk about a shoot through umbrella, and in today's video he will show you 2 completely different layouts by using just 1 Sony Speedlight with the umbrella.

  1. A High Key Portrait with Only 1 Light.
  2. AClassic Fine Art Portrait with Only 1 Light

To complete this particular setup, you also need:

  • Sony F60RM
  • Sony Wireless Radio Commander (FA-WRC1M)
  • Phottix Photo Studio Diffuser Umbrella 84cm (PH85350)
  • Foam Board
  • MagMod MagShoe
  • A Fine Art Backdrop

With this particular setup, you will see with just 1 very affordable modifier, you can be able to do both beautiful high key portrait & very nice dramatic fine art photo at the same time, with just this modifier.

Regarding the backdrops, Jiggie chose a 5x7ft Kate Abstract Texture Dark Brown Color Hand-paintd Canvas, which is completely well qualified for the job.

For More Inspirations: Kate Hand-Painted Collections

(The dark brown color is out of stock temporarily. For your portrait photos, which help you easily achieve fine art works like this,  we recommend you Brown Mid Color Canvas or Turquoise Canvas)

Remember a general Rule of Thumb of using such a Flash & Umbrella Set : Where the flash ends a set, that's where the umbrella should begin. Jiggie will show you how to test it through your camera.

This is an exercise that you can do with basic equipments & studio space, and of course, you also need a fantastic Fine Art Photography Backdrop. Hope you can enjoy this video, and get some inspirations on lighting your own portrait photography.

In this week’s video, here’s even a giveaway. Follow Jiggie on Instagram, leave a comment below with your instagram handle and where you're from and we will randomly choose the winner of this photix shoot through umbrella!
