What Is Glitch Effect in Photography?
Glitch effect is a term used to describe various visual effects that can be created by manipulating digital images or video. The effect is often used to create an abstract or surreal image or to add an interesting effect to an otherwise ordinary image.
You can achieve glitch effects photoshop through several different methods, such as a rectangle selection tool, wave option under distort and the filter gallery option, and channels to apply RGB color.

1. Using a Rectangle Selection Tool
Step 1: Converting to Black and White
Open your Image in Photoshop. If your image is colorful, convert it to black and white. To convert to black and white, go to image> adjustment> desaturate.
Create a duplicate of the background and the new copy double click on it. Open the RGB color. Under the blending option, you get the RGB colors, uncheck the R and click ok.
You can see the color if you click and drag on the image.
Duplicate the background copy, open the RGB color, uncheck the green, keep the blue, and click OK. If you drag your image, you will also see a blue color.
Step 2: RGB Color
In the RGB color, if you click and drag the underlying layer. You will notice you will be reducing the blue color. Reduce the yellow color by increasing this layer, and you will notice the yellow tone will be decreased.
Step 3: Apply the Glitch Using the Rectangle Selection Tool
Once you apply the RGB color, use the rectangle selection tool. Unlock the layer and group them up, click on control G, then duplicate. Click on the new copy of the group and the image; select a region with the control pressed and the arrow key move.
You will see you have created a small cut effect. Create a larger region and do the same thing you did to a small region. Repeat this several times until you get that nice cut-out effect.
Step 4: Apply a Pattern
Have an image for a glitchy ASCII in-lines image. Then drag and drop it over your image. Scale up the size and place it on top; then, change the blend mode to overlay.
This will apply a nice line detail on top. Use 30 to 40 opacity, depending on your design. Add brightness and contrast and increase them to bring a nice detail. Add level and ensure to brighten it up more.
2. Using the Wave Option Under Distort and the Filter Gallery Option
Open your Image in Photoshop and convert your image into black and white, and if you're interested in keeping a color, that's fine. Create a duplicate of the background and the new copy double click on it.
Step 1: RGB Color
Open the RGB color. Under the blending option, you get the RGB colors, uncheck the R and then move it.
To give some different effect, duplicate the background copy, open the RGB color, uncheck the green, keep the blue, and click OK. Move it to the other side and change the blend mode to overlay.
Once you apply the RGB color, use the rectangle selection tool. Unlock the layer and group them up, click on control G, then duplicate this will convert it into a rasterized layer.
Step 2: Applying the Glitch Effect
Use the selection tool and select some areas where you want to apply the glitter effect. Press R to subtract some regions from your selected region.
Once you have selected, do all over the region where you want to apply the glitter effect, click filter> distort > wave.
Under the wave, you will get some options. Change the type to square; your effects will be like a square shape.
Then in the number generator, you can decide the number you want. You can choose two if you want to increase; however, it will add more details to your image.
If you increase the wavelength, the lock becomes bigger. Increase the amplitude and Scale. If you increase the Scale, it will increase the like cut-out effect.
Use the slider to check out which effect you want to see in your image, then click ok. Click command D to see the effects of deselecting, and you will get some interesting effects. Follow these steps two or three times to get different looks.
Step 3: Adding Waves
Select some regions to add waves, then click filter>distort> wave. Then select sine and start adjusting the wave.
Increase the Scale, play around with wavelength, increase the numbers and then adjust the height of the wave by keeping it less, then click ok.
Step 4: Applying a Pattern
There is a technique to apply a pattern. You don't need to go outside photoshop and bring an image; you can do that variously by adding a new layer. Add a new layer, then apply backspace, which is applied with white color. Click filter>filter gallery; under the white, go to sketch, then click halftone pattern. Under the halftone pattern, you have to select lines. Resize your size to fit your initial picture, then click ok. Change the blend mode to soft light and reduce the opacity.

3. Use Channels to Apply RGB Color
● Step 1: Open Photoshop, and on Your Right, Click Channels
Select the R(Red), then switch on the RGB colors. Using the selection tools, move the image. If you move it, you will see you move the red color. In the same way, you will select the green and then move the green as well. Move the red and green till you get a nice color combination.

Using the Rectangle Tool
Create a duplicate of your original image. Then work on the duplicated version. Select a region that you want to change. With the control command, press the arrow button to move the details, select them and then move them around.
Using the Wave Option Under Distort and the Filter Gallery Option
Make some selections, then go to filter> distort>wave. Under the wave, you will adjust, keep it square, reduce the vertical skill value to a minimum, and increase the horizontal one. Increase the wavelength so that you can get bigger changes. Move around with the amplitude, too, then click ok. Add a few details using the second technique.
Step 3: Apply the Pattern
You can add a solid color or a new layer. Apply a solid color by adding a new layer, double-clicking on it, and then applying a pattern. Tick it, and you will see different patterns under the pattern overlay. Right-click and under wide patterns, click on it, and append it. You will get a list of patterns and choose any pattern you like.
You can adjust the size, change the blend mode to soft light and reduce the opacity. Click on the color fill layer and increase this layer and the underlying layer to reduce details on the image.
Add a level to increase the contrast and brightness.
